Baumeister & Trabandt GmbH recently became aware of miunske’s extensive product portfolio at the PMRExpo trade fair. The company was looking for a powerful business partner for a major order to fit out 51 special vehicles for a police authority. Miunske convinced the vehicle equipment specialist with its individual adaptation possibilities and short realization period. “By Wire” spoke with Hans-Walter Siewert, project manager at Baumeister & Trabandt.

By Wire: Mr. Siewert, your main area of activity is the development of special vehicles for authorities and organizations with security tasks (BOS). What makes a vehicle a special vehicle?
H.-W. Siewert: That depends on the area of application of the special vehicle, fire engines and ambulances are just a few examples. The project that we implemented together with miunske involved vehicles for special operations by a police authority. Visually, these do not differ from a production vehicle – neither on the outside nor on the inside. But the first impression is deceptive, because there are numerous technical devices behind the panels.
By Wire: What were the special features of the project?
H.-W. Siewert: The easy interchangeability and integration of the components in all vehicle types. We are talking about a lot of technology that has to be installed intelligently in the various areas of the vehicle. Various rooms, such as the spare wheel recess, are used for this. It can therefore happen that there is an operating unit in the area of the center console.
By Wire: What were the challenges?
H.-W. Siewert: In the requirement for a central control unit for compact control of the radio and special signaling system. Usually there are several additional devices for this. Miunske was able to offer us a device that completely controls all functions. In addition, there were agreements and tests on the many special and detailed functions. The vehicles are now in use and the technical equipment is working smoothly.
By Wire: What role did miunske play in the project?
H.-W. Siewert: The delivery of the central device for the control technology and power supply including the operator panels. For the first time, we at Baumeister & Trabandt have decided to purchase the CAN-BUS keyboard together with the control technology from a single supplier.
By Wire: How did miunske convince you?
H.-W. Siewert: Due to the vehicle specification of special vehicles, many special adjustments were necessary in complex areas, ranging from battery voltage to controlling sockets and power monitoring functions. It was the way of working together and the competence of the employees that, in addition to the economic factors, were convincing.
By Wire: Will there be a continuation of your collaboration?
H.-W. Siewert: This project has created an excellent basis. I can well imagine that Miunske’s services can also be transferred to other areas, which is why we will be happy to come back to miunske.
