Integrating additional functions into vehicles is often a challenge. Existing control systems must not be affected, installation space is often limited and additional wiring is costly. Nevertheless, individual customer wishes should and must be implemented.

Customized solutions are the specialty of Vogt AG from Switzerland. Vogt AG sells, develops, designs, manufactures and maintains products for fire departments and disaster relief services.

The task was to convert a VW T6.1 and 9 Toyota Hilux vehicles into fire engines for the purpose of transporting materials. These vehicles had a permanently programmed control system for the blue light system that did not allow any changes. The customer requested automatic deactivation of the start-stop system in the vehicle as soon as the blue light is switched on. The only thing missing was a corresponding trigger signal.

This was implemented with the help of the multifunction relay (MFR). It simulates pressing the start/stop button as soon as the blue light is switched on or off.

In another application, the MFR was used as a flip-flop to supply an electric cable winch on the vehicle with power explicitly only when the engine is running. If the motor is running, the flip-flop is activated by pressing a button and reset as soon as the motor is switched off.

As variety of customer wishes are as Vogt AG is flexible with the MFR programming kit. Thanks to the free and simple software configuration options and the compact design, the MFR is simply an all-rounder. Vogt AG has the desired hardware versions in stock and configures them to match the required functionality. Another advantage: readjustments can be made without further ado, which is rather difficult with a special relay procured.

"By using the multifunction relay, we were able to save our customer an expensive control solution and thus implement their wishes at an attractive price."
